COMMODIES in California have just a few days left to apply for a guaranteed income program that will see recipients’ out-of-pocket payments totaling $17,000.
Applications for the West Hollywood Pilot for Guaranteed Income can be submitted until March 6.
From those apps, 25 randomly selected people will receive $1,000 a month for 17 months.
Eligible applicants must be age 50 or older, live in West Hollywood, and identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, gay, transgender, or asexual (LGBTQIA).
The program aims to ensure seniors who identify as LGBTQIA have stable housing and an improved quality of life.
In a one-person household, the applicant must earn $41,400 or less per year.
Payments will be sent between April and September 2023.
The West Hollywood Community Study 2019 found that LGBT individuals, older adults and those with low fixed incomes are more financially vulnerable.
People 55 and older represent about 44 percent of residents in West Hollywood who live in poverty.
City officials have provided more than $1.5 million to help residents unable to pay rent due to the impact of the pandemic.

About 80 percent of people living in West Hollywood are renters, according to City government website.
Selected subscribers will receive a debit card linked to the bank account receiving those monthly payments.
Recipients do not need an existing bank account to receive funds.
Guaranteed income programs differ from universal basic income programs because officials have issued an eligibility criterion.
Low-income moms with children under 5 in Healdsburg receive $500 a month for two years as part of a guaranteed income initiative.
About 50 families will be eligible for funding, according to Democratic Press.
The program is scheduled to launch later this year and is said to be rolled out in Sonoma County for the first time.
Kim Bender, chief executive officer of Healthcare Foundation Northern Sonoma County, said: “We see GBI (guaranteed basic income) as an important upstream approach to achieving better health outcomes for extremely low income families and overall higher health equity.”
Officials in Long Beach, California, reportedly plan to launch a guaranteed income pilot program in the summer.
Local officials will select 250 families, and those living in zip code 90813 will be eligible for $500 monthly for a year.
And, 5,000 Chicago households are lining up for $6,000 a year.
Governor Lori Lightfoot revealed applications for the pilot initiative to open in April.
The program, expected to be worth $31.5 million, will see successful subscribers receive a monthly payment of $500 for a year.
They will be selected at random through a draw.
