Ex-NY Gov. Pataki returns to Ukraine with heaters and calls for more US aid

Former Governor George Pataki shipped heavy-duty heaters to Ukraine last week – and is urging the Biden administration to step up US aid to the nation in its war with Russia.

“Every time we go, we hope to see this massive aid in Ukraine,” Pataki told the Post during a call from Hungary.

“You need more.”

New York’s ex-boss said he took matters into his own hands, traveling with Ambassador Earle Mack of the nonprofit Appeal of Conscience Foundation for his fifth trip to Ukraine.

The couple led a delegation that, thanks to donations from ACF and support from the George Pataki Leadership Center, delivered 15 large, industrial-size heating units with capacity for up to 10 families each.

“We will continue to do everything we can to help the Ukrainian people. The federal government has provided billions in humanitarian aid to Ukraine, but this is our fifth trip to Ukraine since the war began, and we have not seen a penny of US humanitarian aid,” he said.

The Biden administration has pledged over $18 billion in aid to Ukraine.

Russia has targeted Ukraine’s power grid, which has caused frequent blackouts and blackouts across the country. Pataki said after speaking to Ukrainian officials – including President Volodymyr Zelensky’s wife Olena Zelenska – he decided to make the trip to deliver the heaters.

Pataki said the group’s schedule had to be changed when they were delayed by a power outage at the Luzhanka border between Ukraine and Hungary on Thursday. He said air raid sirens sounded during the attempted crossing.
