Ex-Atlantic City Cop Shoots Erin Gatier in Murder-Suicide

According to a local prosecutor’s office, a former New Jersey police officer stormed into his ex-girlfriend’s home and shot her dead before killing himself.

The horrific murder-suicide was discovered Monday when authorities found the bodies of retired Atlantic City police officer William Beattie and his ex Erin Gatier during a welfare check at their home, the Gloucester County Attorney’s Office reportedly said Tuesday night.

Beattie got to the South Jersey home where he fatally shot the mother of two and then himself, prosecutors said, the Atlantic City Press reported. Both were 47.

A colleague of Gatier’s from a few years ago said Gatier told him Beattie was a problem.

“She admitted to me that he was problematic, that he was a very controlling person and wouldn’t let her talk to anyone who he thought might pose some kind of threat to him,” former colleague Matt Greenberg testified Pennsylvania the newspaper.

“It was an abusive relationship, not physically but more mentally.”

Beattie was forced to retire from the force more than a decade ago due to “accidental disability,” according to state records.

The press reported that a GoFundMe page, started by friends to raise money for Gatier’s funeral expenses, said her loss would make the world “less bright”.

“Erin left behind two beautiful children faced with unimaginable choices and expenses,” the post reads.
