The twisted couple has now been found guilty of false imprisonment.

Matthew was severely dehydrated and weighed only 6 stone when he was finally found inside a room covered in vomit and feces at his home in Sheffield, South Yorks.

The Hewitts family denied keeping him in their home for seven months, but both were found guilty following a trial at Sheffield Crown Court.

The couple were also found guilty of causing or leaving an adult vulnerable to serious physical harm.

The court heard Matthew was found by paramedics severely underweight, dehydrated and “life hanging on the scales.”

Nicholas Campbell QC, according to the prosecution, earlier said an ambulance service was called to the home in Sheffield, South Yorks., in the early hours of June 2, 2020.

Matthew was taken to the hospital’s intensive care unit in a “pitiful” condition with scratches showing he was moving around on all fours, the prosecutor told the court.

It was damaged in one kidney with high sodium levels associated with severe dehydration.

Mr. Campbell added: “His sodium levels were dangerously high. They measured 180.

“They’re at such a high altitude that they can turn off his brain and kill him. Anything over 145, has a real chance of death.

“The Home Office pathologist examined the wounds and said the scratches and bruises were consistent with his view that Matthew was crawling on all fours over objects in his path. he.”

The court heard police found feces and vomit in Matthew’s attic bedroom on the floor and bedding along with buzzing flies, odors and keys outside the door.

Matthew, who suffered from irritable bowel syndrome, urinary incontinence, arthritis and learning difficulties, weighed only six stone when found, Mr. Campbell said.

Seven months earlier, in November 2019, he weighed eight and a half tablets, the court heard.

However, Mr. Campbell said Matthew had recovered well thanks to the hard work of medical professionals and when he was discharged from the hospital, he weighed 55kg.

Craig Hewitt told police his wife Lorna found Matthew upstairs on the floor and he testified that Matthew had been fed and he ate in his room.

He also testified after police found a key outside the door of Matthew’s bedroom that there were locks on the interior doors because their home used to be a student residence.

Mr Hewitt told police that his stepson Matthew was locked up only at night because he would go downstairs and set the security alarm.

Lorna Hewitt chose not to respond to comment to all questions raised by the police, the court heard.

Mr Campbell told the jury: “The problem for you is that you might think that when the pressure was on they were ready to bet with his health that he would be out of their hands. and be taken care of by others.”

Mr. Hewitt decided not to present evidence during the trial, but his wife Lorna told the jury that her son stopped convalescing because he was tired of going to the care center.

But Mr Campbell claims if they hadn’t canceled the respite care stays he received, he would never have been in the hospital fighting for his life.

Ms. Hewitt said that during Matthew’s stay at home he didn’t feel like anything and she assumed he was fed up and wanted to go home and he didn’t want to go out that much.

Mrs Hewitt said she was worried about leaving Matthew alone on a few occasions but there were no other times when he was left alone and she tried to make him as safe as possible.

Mr Campbell said the pair had begun locking Matthew in his room at night but Ms Hewitt insisted he was left downstairs when they went out.

The jury today found them guilty after deliberating for a day. Evil couple keep autistic son in attic and let him starve for only 6stone while surrounded by feces and vomit
