Below, we’ve rounded up everything we know about the Next Mass Effect, gathering every tease and direct excerpt from BioWare.

Could this be a tease of Commander Shepard’s return?

Mass Effect to switch to Unreal Engine? – December 19

BioWare producer Brenon Holmes shared a tweet noting that the team is looking for programmers with Unreal Engine 4 and 5 experience.

The implication of this is that it hints that the franchise will move away from Frostbite, EA’s own engine. The franchise was run on the Unreal Engine before moving to Frostbite with the ill-fated Mass Effect Andromeda.

Is there a release date for the next Mass Effect?

The next Mass Effect title currently has no release date.

BioWare has yet to provide any specific details on a release date or even a release window. However, a February 2022 blog post outlines how the game is still in the “prototyping” stage.

This means that active development has yet to really begin as a full concept is yet to be finalized. Therefore, it would be wise for Mass Effect fans not to hold their breath. We could very easily wait until 2024 or as early as 2025 for the next Mass Effect.

BioWare also confirmed the upcoming title will be a “next-gen” launch, implying that the next Mass Effect will be available on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X hardware | S.

Mass Effect’s next trailer

BioWare announced the next Mass Effect title with a teaser trailer on December 11, 2020.

The trailer spans multiple galaxies before scaling down to a specific galaxy, past a star and vast alien structures, before following a small ship while it descends a icy planet.

While this was happening, various voices could be heard describing key moments in human history. These include space travel, first contact with alien life, as well as certain types of disasters. This could be the Reaper crisis from the original Mass Effect trilogy or one of humanity’s early wars with aliens.

Finally, the trailer features a member of the Ansari clan climbing a mountain in the snow, before retrieving something burned from the ground. The female Ansari clears the snow to reveal what is a piece of N7 armor, before smiling when she discovers herself.

The N7 armor could of course be related to Commander Shepard, Ryder from Mass Effect Andromeda, or someone entirely new, depending on the setting of the game. Some fans have speculated that the female Ansari could be Liara T’Soni. However, this is unlikely if Mass Effect 4 is a sequel to Andromeda, with that game set 600 years after Mass Effect 3 and a galaxy far away.

Next Series Effect Poster

A poster released by BioWare in November 2021, provided further clues to the next Mass Effect title. It comes with an update from BioWare posted company blog on date N7 reads:

“Of course, we are hard at work on the next adventure in the Mass Effect universe. Until then, please accept our humblest thanks to you for being with us on this journey. We know we couldn’t have done it without you – on Day N7, or any other day. “

The accompanying poster shows a ship and its crew stepping out onto an alien planet. Eagle-eyed fans have zoomed in on the poster and have reported that it shows the lander approaching a crater and looks like Geth’s damaged body.

Geth was our main fodder in the first Mass Effect games. They are a race of cyborgs that share a common termite colony and were used as troops by the Reapers in Mass Effect 1 and 2. However, the Geth went up against their puppet masters in Mass Effect 3, joining the fight. against the Reapers. At least, this is if the player makes it so.

The landing party also appears to include four characters, each of which resembles one of Mass Effect’s key races. The character on the left is almost certainly a member of the Krogan clan. A human and an Asari are also relatively obvious.

The plot and the setting of the next Block Effect

The promotional material for the next Mass Effect seems more closely related to the original games than the more recent Andromeda. The fourth game in the series was not as popular as the original three and was notoriously mocked for its character models at launch.

BioWare may choose to abandon the Andromeda experiment in the next Mass Effect and return to the more fertile soil of the Milky Way. This is speculation of course, as the new Mass Effect entry will likely continue the Ryder twins’ adventures with BioWare learning from the mistakes made in the previous installment.
