Evacuations in place as bushfires in Big Sur

BIG SUR – Crews on Friday night battled a bushfire in Big Sur, according to a media report.
The Colorado Fire was reported around 7:15 p.m. in the Palo Colorado Canyon and Rocky Creek Road area in Monterey County and has burned between 75 and 100 acres, KCRA 3 reported.

Evacuations were ordered for all areas west of 3800 Palo Colorado Road to Highway 1 and south to Bixby Creek.

Highway 1 was closed in both directions from near the entrance to Andrew Molera State Park in Big Sur to Rio Road in Carmel because of the fire, according to Caltrans’s District 5.

Cal Fire told KCRA 3 the fire was in an area difficult to access for crews and was burning west in the direction of Highway 1.
KCRA reports a total of 13 agencies are fighting fires.
Teenage humidity and gusty winds hit around 35 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

An American Red Cross shelter is scheduled to open at 11:30 p.m. Friday at Carmel Middle School, located at 4380 Carmel Valley Road in Carmel-By-The-Sea.
