Netflix shared an amusing callback to the 2020 film euro vision Song Contest: The Story of the Fire Saga after this year’s Eurovision final.
At the event, Britain achieved its best result since 1998, with Sam Ryder’s “Space Man” eventually taking second place.
A day after the event, the official Netflix account shared a still from the euro vision Comedy starring Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams.
The image comes from a scene that originally went viral a year ago after fans claimed the film ‘predicted’ the outcome of Eurovision 2021 in the UK.
In the clip is Russian competitor Alexander Lemtov (played by Downton Abbey‘s Dan Stevens) can be heard talking about the British contestant. “She’s pretty good,” he says, “but everyone hates Britain, so zero points.”
When the UK actually scored “zero points” last year, many Netflix viewers were quick to point to the film as an amusing foreshadowing.
However, given the country’s sudden success this year, it looks like the meme will have to be withdrawn.
Taking to Twitter, the official Netflix account wrote, “RIP to this joke, 2020-2022.”
