ERIK TEN HAG has announced he has pulled out the Ajax squad for GAMING ahead of Saturday’s crucial clash at NEC Nijmegen.
And the team bonding session worked perfectly as the Dutch extended their lead over PSV to seven points at the top of the Eredivisie table.
Ajax striker Brian Brobbey, on loan from RB Leipzig, scored in the 88th minute and left the Amsterdamers on the brink of the league title.
It’s been a busy week for Ten Hag, having been it confirmed as Manchester United’s next permanent manager.
That 52 years oldwho has signed a first contract until 2025, will succeed Ralf Rangnick in the dugout at Old Trafford at the end of the season.
He supposedly will received a £200m war chest in what is expected to be a busy transfer window at the Theater of Dreams.
But before he can focus on planning a squad overhaul, Ten Hag must first focus on his title fight with Ajax.
And ahead of the club’s 1-0 win over NEC, he revealed how he keeps morale up in the team.
He told a reporter: “The atmosphere in your squad is crucial. That’s why I did something different with the squad this week.”
To which the journalist asked: “What have you done?”
Ten Hag replied, “We all went to play together.”
The shocked reporter replied, “You went to do what?”
The new United boss then declared: “Gaming! real gaming! The esports way!”
Ten Hag was also asked how his squad reacted to the news of his departure, where he claimed his players were happy for him.
He remarked: “The players are very happy for me, that’s nice.
“I worked at Ajax for a long time and built great relationships.”
