Eric Adams credits Jay Jacobs for narrow win of Gov. Hochul

Mayor Eric Adams on Saturday insisted that the state’s Democratic Party leader Jay Jacobs is doing a great job — and joining the ranks of Gov. Kathy Hochul, who previously said she would not call for the embattled leader’s resignation.
“I think Jay Jacobs brought home the governor’s race here, a very difficult race,” he told reporters during a charity event related to the SOMOS conference in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
“Jay Jacobs was a really steady hand and I think Rodneyse Bichotte — talk about Ws,” Adams added, praising the Brooklyn Democratic Party leader for helping win Attorney General Letitia James.
Bichotte has also come under fire for failing to get her party’s voice out in Kings County.
The mayor’s loyalty contrasts with the anger of the party’s left wing, which does not blame his own soft crime policies, but instead blames the party leadership for the losses of center-left MPs – particularly in south Brooklyn – and for the failures Win congressional districts on Long Island and upstate.
“I called for Jay Jacob’s resignation a year ago and I still hold that position,” said Socialist MP Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tweeted on Wednesday. She was re-elected Tuesday for her third term representing parts of the Bronx and Queens.

Adams said Democrats – who had to rely on the left-wing Working Families Party to secure Hochul’s narrow election victory – need to do better talking with Asian and Latino voters.
“We lose her. We need to speak directly to the needs of workers in this country that was the bedrock of the Democratic Party, and we need to speak to their needs, not them,” he said.
Republican Lester Chang, the Republican, defeated 36-year veteran Rep. Peter Abbate in the 49th Circuit of Bensonhurst/Borough Park/Sunset Park.

He opposed New York’s bail bond reforms and advocated for merit-based education and school choice.
Senator Jessica Ramos said Jacobs should be fired but agreed Democrats need to figure out how to talk about crime.
“Jacobs should have been fired yesterday.”
“This was a great election for Democrats across the country, but here in New York, our leadership has failed us. People are dealing with crime and lack of money. And we don’t listen. We don’t win by running away from issues that voters care about. Tuesday was proof of that,” she added.
