Episode 5 reveals how Anakin tried to teach Ahsoka an important leadership lesson

In episode 5 of Ahsoka, Anakin Skywalker tried to teach his former padawan an important lesson, but the flashbacks left fans questioning what that lesson was.

*WARNING: Spoilers for Ahsoka episode 5* – Star Wars has always had a teacher and student dynamic to some extent, be it in the form of old Ben Kenobi giving Luke his first lessons in the Force or in the form of him mentoring Anakin Skywalker Ahsoka Tano during The Clone Wars animated series.

Flashbacks to Episode 5

The fifth episode of the Ahsoka series on Disney+ explores her relationship with her former master as she confronts a vision of Anakin in the world between worlds.

Ahsoka arrived in the mysterious dimension after losing her duel against Baylan Skoll in the final moments of Episode 4 and was surprised to be confronted by her old master.

Together, the two revisit some of the key moments that shaped Ahsoka during the Clone Wars, particularly the Battle of Ryloth and the Siege of Mandalore.

Anakin says that the experience is the final part of Ahsoka’s training, but she is unsure what lesson he wants him to teach her.

What did Anakin want to teach Ahsoka?

Anakin’s lesson was aimed at inspiring Ahsoka to become the hero the galaxy needs.

During the first flashback to Ryloth, Anakin talks about how Obi-Wan taught him that the Jedi were peacekeepers, but because of the Clone Wars he was forced to adapt and become soldiers.

Since Ahsoka was a Padawan during the Clone Wars, she was essentially raised to be a soldier herself and has faced it ever since.

What Anakin wants, however, is for her to be able to persevere and adapt to the situation she finds herself in now.

Instead of being a lonely, samurai-like Jedi, Ahsoka should embrace those around her and learn to become the heroic leader they need in the face of the impending return of Grand Admiral Thrawn.

It’s advice that Huyang has already tried to impart to Ahsoka and Sabine when he tried to get them to stay together during their respective duels in episode 4, but ultimately failed.

Ahsoka the White

Previously, the title character has worn gray outfits throughout the Ahsoka series, but that changes after she returns from The World Between Worlds.

Ahsoka ends the episode by donning a white robe instead, showing that she has undergone the transformation into the hero Anakin wanted her to be.

The change in Ahsoka’s clothing mirrors that of Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings. He began as the lonesome Gandalf the Grey, but later returned as the more powerful and inspiring Gandalf the White.

While this may be an important step in Ahsoka’s character development, it does raise questions about the epilogue in the Star Wars Rebels finale, in which Ahsoka appears in her white robes, during the same scene revisited in the Ahsoka series , the figure can still be seen in her gray clothing.
