KANSAS CITY, MO. – Due to high winds across Kansas and Missouri, Evergy employees are responding to the outage to restore power to affected customers.

Power outages are limited and sporadic, however, gusts (up to 70 mph) are expected to become more intense through midnight this Wednesday.

Proactive maintenance, including tree pruning, helps reduce the impact of hurricanes on the power grid. Extreme or prolonged winds still threaten the grid and can cause power outages.

Customers can take steps to prepare for a possible outage. Always charge your phone and other electronic devices. Evenergy recommends that everyone have a flashlight, batteries, water and non-perishable food on hand, as well as a communication plan for family members to stay connected should an emergency arise.

Once register online, customers can also register to receive written notifications and report power outages by phone at:

  • Evergy Central 1-800-LIGHTKS (800-544-4857) or
  • Evergy Subway, Missouri West 1-888-LIGHTKC (888-544-4852)

Exposure, even indirect, to power lines can cause serious injury and possibly death. High winds and storms can knock tree branches onto power lines or knock power lines down. If a branch or other debris comes into contact with a power line, do not attempt to remove it. Evergy, INC encourages people to keep at least 10 feet away from them. Outage lines can also be reported through Evergy’s outage reporting lines. Call 9-1-1 to report downed lines in high traffic areas. Energy team to deal with high winds
