Emma Thompson takes an honest look at sex, desire and intimacy in Good Luck to You, Leo Grande

She plays a widow looking for sexual adventures that she never had in her marriage. So she turns to an expert for help and hires a sex worker who basically shows her how it’s all done – maybe triggering a sexual awakening.
The film is charming, comedic and dramatic at the same time.

Thompson thought the script, which required her and her co-star to lose everything, was “extraordinary.”
“From the moment I read it, it was absolutely clear that it had to be done and that it was just such a beautiful, fun, delicious script,” said Thompson. “I just felt like it was a great privilege to have received it.”
Daryl McCormack plays the young man trying to help his client achieve her sexual goals.
“What I took away was that intimacy isn’t really separate from other experiences in our lives and is very intertwined with who we are and how we feel about ourselves,” McCormack said.
“It’s very difficult, isn’t it, to feel pleasure when you spend all your time telling yourself that you don’t agree with your body,” Thompson said. “If the vessel you’re supposed to find joy in is something you can’t accept, you don’t have to love it or think it’s the most beautiful thing on God’s earth, but accepting it, that’s very important, because then you can relax in it and you can feel in it and it’s yours.”
Good Luck Leo Grande is rated R and streaming now on Hulu.
Disney is the parent company of Hulu and this ABC network.
