Emily Blunt claims Tom Cruise gave her some unconventional — but motivating — advice while they were working together on Edge of Tomorrow.
The now 39-year-old actress recalled her Hollywood co-star delivering tough love on the set of the 2014 action film, a departure from her typical rom-com fare. She said Cruise told her to “stop being so ap-y” as she struggled with her 85-pound costume.
“We had to wear these giant suits, which I think would have been great if we could CGI them, but we wanted to do it in a tactile way,” she revealed on the SmartLess podcast in an episode that airs Monday will , per news reports.
“When you hear the word ‘tactile’ you think it sounds nice and cozy. There was nothing cozy about those suits. It was like 85 pounds. It was so hard,” she continued. “The first time I put it on, I started crying, and [Cruise] didn’t know what to do.”
Blunt said Cruise “stared at her” as she became more and more panicked about putting on the heavy suit.
“I was like, ‘Tom, I’m not sure how I’m going to get through this shoot,’ and I just started crying,” she admitted. “I said, ‘I’m a little bit panicked about the whole shoot.'”
Cruise’s alleged response made the Devil Wears Prada star cry again — but in a good way.
“He just stared at me for a long time, not knowing what to do, and said, ‘Come on, stop it, so ap—y, okay?'” she said, adding that it surprised her and made her laugh brought.
The Post reached out to a representative for Cruise, 60, for comment.
In Edge of Tomorrow, Cruise and Blunt play warriors in a time warp trying to save humanity after Earth was attacked by aliens.
The massive suit wasn’t the only challenge Blunt reportedly encountered on the set of the sci-fi film, revealing that she also injured her ribs and collarbone. She reportedly told podcast hosts Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett that the bones involved were “still dodgy.”
