Elton John will headline the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury Festival next year.
The news was announced by co-organizer Emily Eavis on Twitter on Friday (2 December).
“It gives me great pleasure to announce that the one and only Elton John will be making his very first appearance at Glastonbury next year and will be headlining the Pyramid Stage on Sunday night,” she wrote.
“This will be the final UK show of Elton’s very last tour so we will close the festival and mark this big moment in both our histories with the mother of all goodbyes.
“We are so excited to finally bring Rocket Man to Worthy Farm!”
Glastonbury 2023 returns to Worthy Farm on June 21-25.
This appearance will be John’s second ever UK festival appearance.
“I couldn’t be more excited to headline the Pyramid Stage,” John said of his performance next year. “With the end of my Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour in sight, there is no more fitting way to say goodbye to my UK fans. You have been beyond brilliant and have supported me through all the ups and downs of my career.
“Every week I speak to new artists on my radio show and Glastonbury is often cited as a pivotal moment in launching their careers – the festival’s genuine, enthusiastic support for the best up-and-coming talent is something I have long admired.
“I’ve been talking to Emily Eavis about this for the past few weeks and I can’t wait to capture the spirit of the biggest festival on earth. It gets incredibly emotional.”
Last month, John wrapped up the North American leg of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour with a show at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
His show Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium streamed live on Disney+ and saw him duet with the likes of Dua Lipa, Kiki Dee and Brandi Carlile.
The final leg of John’s tour will include dates in Australia, New Zealand and European shows over the next year.
