Elton John reveals his son is on his way to the stage

The end of the Yellow Brick Road is finally near.

In an interview with Robin Roberts on Good Morning America on Tuesday, Elton John spoke about his family and the final US show of his seemingly never-ending Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, set to take place at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles — 47 years after he had given his legendary performance there – on Sunday.

“Dodgers Stadium was the pinnacle of my career at that point,” John told GMA. “This is my last tour. You have to suck it up. And I soaked up all the love and all the loyalty that the audience showed.”

The 75-year-old pianist’s final North American performance – which will be streamed live on Disney+ – will include guest appearances from his Cold Heart collaborator Dua Lipa, his Grammy-winning actress Brandi Carlile and his duet partner Kiki Dee on his hit “Don’ t Go Breaking My Heart” from 1976. It will be a full-circle moment for John, who — as portrayed in his 2019 biopic “Rocketman” — is known to have wore a sequined Dodger outfit while he was at the ballpark “Pinball Wizard” performed.

“It wasn’t the happiest time of my life, but I bounced back pretty quickly,” John said. “I was the greatest I could be. But being there alone again and ending the North American tour with three days at Dodgers Stadium – I couldn’t ask for a better ending.”

But with his Dua Lipa duet on the Rocket Man makeover Cold Heart and his collaboration with Britney Spears on Hold Me Closer – a Tiny Dancer remake – John hardly came across as an artist by the end of his life street in 2022.

John felt a special need to connect with Spears. “I want her to feel the love of the music-loving generation out there because she has a lot of fans,” he explained. “She came in, did the vocals and it was great. I just wanted her to feel the love because she hasn’t experienced much love in the past few years.”

And John hinted that this may not be the end of his generational collaboration.

“A lot of people don’t embrace the new and their songs that are great don’t switch to the new,” he told GMA. “You have to and you know… I love it because like I said, the boys make me feel special.

“I have a lot of energy, but when you’re 23, 24 you have a different kind of energy,” he added. “And that shows in their music. When you work with these people, you also learn a lot. It’s child’s play.”

“They both play the piano and Elijah was staring at the trumpet,” John said. “Elijah walks towards the stage. I don’t know what Zachary will do – his passion is fishing. And the best thing about my life is that everything changed when we had these kids.

“That’s why I’m getting off the road,” he added. “What could I want more? I’ve got enough applause… I just want applause from my kids saying, ‘You were a good dad.’ ”
