Elisabeth Moss has opened up about her 2017 Emmy win, in which she dropped an F-Bomb while accepting the Best Actress in a Drama Series award for her role The story of the maid.
After the ceremony aired, a report from The Hollywood Reporter suggested that Moss’ explicit language was related to an alleged Scientologist practice of swearing in public.
In her speech, Moss addressed her mother Linda and said: “You are brave and strong and smart. You taught me you can be nice and you can be damn badass.”
Moss, who was raised in the Church of Scientology, said in a new interview with theNew Yorker that she was “pissed off” by the report, which quoted a former Scientologist who claimed believers often cursed to communicate with “average people” “on the tone scale.”
The Church of Scientology has denied this claim.
“That pissed me off,” Moss said, reflecting on the story. “It was a really, really big moment for me, and it was a big moment for my mom and me.
“My mother, who has been supportive of me over the years and has been such an incredible mother to both me and my brother. And to tell such a lie about it – I didn’t deserve it and it was wrong.”
