Elias Ricks landing looks unlikely

When LSU full-back Elias Ricks announced his transfer decision, it felt like the Ohio State side were in the lead. Now, that may no longer be the case.

If that’s the case – and it’s certainly been true so far – it’s a headache for Ryan Day and the State of Ohio. The main reason floating around for not pursuing Ricks was because impact the current list.

The Buckeyes seem to foresee many Ohio State defenders turning over if the OSU reels from Ricks. Assuming this is true, this doesn’t make much sense. Ricks is a huge talent and will be part of a great duo with Denzel Burke as manager on the other side. This will give the Bucks a significant boost in their national championship odds for next season.

Of course, taking into account the transfer portal, players will move out if Ricks arrives and starts immediately. But wouldn’t it be worth trying to replace the spare corners if Ricks could be just as good?

What makes this decision all the more disappointing is that Ohio State has a big chance to land the Ricks. The Buckeyes came in second in his recruitment and was rumored to be a potential spot for Ricks when he ran transfers last season.

Right after Ricks officially entered the transfer portal a few weeks ago, OSU was named one of his top four schools and the most loved one. Ricks is even scheduled to visit Ohio State this weekend, that just can’t happen anymore.

Alabama, Georgia and USC make the top four for the Ricks. One of these three teams will now take the Ricks with Ohio State out of the mix. The Ricks are going to make Alabama and Georgia even better, and they are of course the big contenders every season.

This may seem like a questionable decision by Ohio State football, but their judgment may be reasonable. From the outside looking in, questioning the decision is understandable. Despite that, Day is still making good decisions about defence; OSU landing Jim Knowles as their Defense Coordinator is exciting news.

What Ricks goes from here will still be something to watch. His talent could rock college football. One thing is for sure, Ohio State football seems to favor the Ricks. Elias Ricks landing looks unlikely
