Elderly California woman Nina Steinman was kidnapped by car while feeding homeless people

An 81-year-old woman was abducted by car while serving meals to the homeless outside a supermarket in Southern California, police officers said.

Nina Steinman was handing out food to the hungry in the parking lot of a Stater Bros. in Redlands on Monday, something she’s been doing regularly since January, she told KTLA.

As 24-year-old Roberto Carlos Sanchez Jr. was dishing out the last of their home-cooked meals around 3:30 p.m., he approached Steinman’s silver vehicle and wrested her keys, officials said.

Video published by the Redlands Police Department Reportedly shows Sanchez, dressed all in black, approaching the back of the gray 2015 Kia Sportage with the trunk open. After an apparent scuffle, he runs into the driver’s seat and shuts the door.

Steinman tries in vain to open the driver’s door.

With the trunk still wide open, Sanchez Jr. quickly reverses out of the parking spot, dragging Steinman and knocking her to the ground while holding on, video shows.

He then speeds out of the parking lot while several witnesses try to stop him.

Steinman was not seriously injured but had bruises on his arm. The driver made off with her wallet and purse, the outlet reported.

“Let me tell you, I’m not scared,” the defiant senior told KTLA. “I wanted to grab his shirt and just pull the little pup out of the front seat, but I couldn’t open the door.”

Police said the thief was spotted westbound on the 10 freeway with the tailgate of the stolen car still open.

The vehicle was also spotted Wednesday in a parking garage in downtown Los Angeles, the LAPD said.

Sanchez Jr. was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a stolen vehicle, the outlet’s police officers said.

He is being held at the West Valley Detention Center in San Bernardino for auto theft and elder abuse. His bail was set at $250,000, KTLA reported.

Steinman, meanwhile, was reportedly en route to Los Angeles to pick up her car — which is still drivable.
