ANTHONY JOSHUA’s high-stakes rematch against Oleksandr Usyk will be completed within the next two weeks.
The Watford warrior’s second showdown with the smooth southpaw was very much in doubt after the proud one The Ukrainian took up arms in his country’s ongoing war with Russia.
But the 34-year-old was recently given permission to leave his home country to prepare for the rematch, the promoter Eddie Horn expected to take place by mid-July at the latest.
He said boxing scene: “We are in final negotiations with some sites for late June or early/mid July.
“I expect we’ll have news on where it’s going to be within two weeks.
“There is still a UK option but we don’t need proper negotiations for the UK, we can just book it.”
June 25th was the original work date for desert dust removal, although SunSport understands this has been changed to July 23rd.
Usyk effortlessly turned Joshua over in their Tottenham clash last September to capture the WBA, WBO, IBF, and IBO heavyweight titles.
But he struggles to focus on his first defense of the Unity Belts as war ravages his country.
He told BlockAsset, “I want to focus on my preparation as much as possible [for the rematch].
“Because right now I can’t stop thinking about the war, about my friends in Ukraine.
“And I have to get rid of such thoughts as best I can in order to be well prepared for the Anthony Joshua fight and to be able to glorify My God, Jesus Christ and my homeland again.”
He added: “Boxing is a sport, boxing is a skill. While war is survival.
“Fortunately I didn’t see much of the war, but what I saw and what I know from my relatives and my friends is terrible.
“Some of my friends are missing and we don’t know where they are now.
“Many of my relatives have lost their homes and their friends and loved ones.
“Honestly everything that is happening now is pretty terrible – in Ukraine.
“I pray every day for this horror to end soon. Boxing is child’s play compared to war.
“War is a terrible thing I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy.”
