ED Sheeran has revealed that he is building a tomb at the bottom of his garden.
Singer The Shape of You will house the crypt in a church he is building on the grounds of his sprawling estate in Suffolk, complete with a tower, pews and stained-glass windows.
Planners endorsed the idea in 2019 and Ed just submitted revised plans to the local council revealing the structure would feature a burial chamber.
The crypt will be built underground of the church and will be accessed through a stone slab.
Drawings submitted to East Suffolk County Council last month show the room will be 2.7m long and 1.8m wide.
Additional Plans: “The Burial Area Below (Penetrates Through the Slab).”
Ed’s Church will feature eight pews, an altar, an upstairs gallery and a stair turret with access to the tower.
Donald Insall Associates, the project’s representative, said of the church in previously submitted documents: “It will address the critical need for a private retreat for contemplation and prayer, to celebrate Celebrate important life and family milestones.
“The proposed building would be a truly ancillary space to the main house, but beyond it to create tranquility and seclusion.”
The two-story oval structure will feature flint walls, a lead roof and a circular tower.
This is a much smaller and smaller version of the Saxon-style wedding chapel he had hoped to build in 2018 but was rejected by planners when villagers complained.
It will be built on the edge of his property, sheltered by trees and the warmth will come from a heat pump.
Previous plans for a chapel were rejected by councilors and architects Liz Lake Associates said in the new application: “The relatively small structure will be surrounded by existing, emerging native plantings in a similar way to structures. other in the countryside, helping it to integrate into the densely wooded clay plateau.
“This will continue to take shape over time, reducing the visibility of the building (and other existing buildings) as the native tree backdrop reaches maturity.
“The materials used to construct the new building are primarily hand-crafted flint, to reflect the highest quality in architecture and design details, providing contrasting yet muted colors. sound and tonal variations blend in with its surroundings.”
Ed lives on a large piece of land £3.7m complex in rural Suffolk which continued to grow as he came across neighboring houses.
It now consists of five homes – including a swimming pool, a two-story treehouse, a pub and a football field.
The Sun has approached Ed’s rep for comment.
