Brian Conley made for a lively performance permissive women, as he recalled an incident in which he received an insidious compliment from a stranger.
Conley, 61, is best known for his role as Tom “Rocky” Cotton on the BBC soap opera EastEnders.
On Permissive women today (12/19) the actor recalled the encounter where a stranger apparently once said to him: “You know you like Brian Conley, no offense!”
The hosts had joked that Conley is a George Clooney look-alike.
Later in the program, Conley broke down in tears after his daughter Lucy made a surprise appearance on stage in a bear costume.
He told the audience: “I’m getting all teary now.”
The actor also reflected on Dot Cotton’s funeral episode EastEnderswhich aired on Monday (December 12).
He revealed that the cast members were emotional as they performed Cotton’s fictional funeral following the death of fellow actress June Brown.
Conley said: “As Natalie Cassidy [Sonia] had to get up and give a eulogy, she was really crying. A lot of us were.”
Brown, who died in April at the age of 95, played the chain-smoking Dot Cotton for 35 years and was one of the soap’s most iconic characters.
In a scene at the character’s funeral in the tribute episode, three of Brown’s children – Nim, Sophie, and Billy – were sitting in the same row as Dot’s grandnephew, Reiss Colwell (played by Jonny Freeman), when Dot was laid to rest.
“There’s going to be some really, really good stuff in the new year,” Conley teased EastEnders in 2023 after reflecting on the sadness of the funeral episode.
