EastEnders fans spot a major new set glitch as The Arches looks completely different

EASTENDERS’ shiny new £87million set has finally hit our screens – but eagle-eyed viewers have noticed something about one of its iconic features.

The Arches, home of Ben Mitchell and Kheerat Panesar’s garage shop, got a facelift from a costly overhaul.

A huge wall of corrugated iron has been removed to make way for a wide cobbled alley that offers a wider range of turning options.

The front of the store is also much more spacious now, with steps and a lawned area next to the children’s play area.

One viewer wrote on Twitter: “Well the area in front of the Arches has certainly grown! 😲.”

Another commented, “Pretty sure there was a wall next to the arches 😂.”

A third said: “Did they tear down the wall next to the arches and move the park?! At least the new set should look like the old set! #EastEnders.”

Others, however, acknowledged the need for change, writing, “It makes sense to improve the Arches area, it’s a common environment.”

The small garage was the scene of violent attacks and even a murder when Ronnie Mitchell fought off villain Carl White in 2014.

The original 1984 set has been updated after being declared unserviceable. It can now film in high definition and went live earlier this year.

Last night The Sun exclusively revealed that the Elstree set is being infested by red foxes who keep pooping.

Production manager Rona McKendrick, who has been working on the BBC1 soap for 30 years, said: “We’ve got a new back alley, so to speak – the back gardens.

“Even the foxes like it because they actually poop in the grass.

“It’s real fox droppings. It’s not stunt poo.

“It’s a nice new neighborhood – a street with garages.

“We can expand storylines and show different areas of Walford.”

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7:30pm on BBC1.
