Dwayne Johnson’s daughter Simone Johnson has revealed her professional wrestling name ahead of her WWE debut.
Johnson’s 20-year-old daughter has been preparing for her debut appearance with World Wrestling Entertainment for two years.
Simone followed in her father’s footsteps and signed her contract with WWE in early 2020. Her debut was delayed after sustaining injuries that required surgery.
Simone shared her wrestling nickname “Ava Raine” in a post on social media.
She is a fourth generation wrestler. Before her father’s career in the sport, Simone’s grandfather and great-grandfather were also professional wrestlers.
Some people have criticized Simone for not making it clearer that her chosen moniker is associated with The Rock.
“Giving a new name to THE ROCK’s daughter Simone Johnson makes absolutely no sense,” one person wrote.
“Will uphold the verdict until she debuts, but when WWE doesn’t acknowledge her father is The Rock, that’s ridiculous.”
On Sunday (May 29), Simone responded to the tweet: “I probably sound like a broken record and hopefully this is the last time I’ll mention this, but I don’t understand why people are portrayed as separate persons from their family name such a heated topic.”
“A name does not discredit a family’s past achievements.”
Simone later tweeted, “I could build my whole career around my dad and people would still bash me.”
Johnson previously praised Simone for wanting to “create and carve out her own path.”
Reacting to his daughter’s deal with WWE, the actor said, “First of all what an honor that my daughter wants to follow in my footsteps but more importantly it sounds cliched to follow in my footsteps but she actually wants to create and ignite their own path that is so important.”
Simone is the daughter of Johnson and his ex-wife Dany Garcia.
