Meghan & Harry ‘couldn’t be further away’ from ‘loyal’ royal image
Meghan and Harry’s approach to royal life “couldn’t be further removed” than that of Princess Anne and Sophie, Countess of Wessex, according to a royal author.
According to Pauline Maclaran, co-author of Royal Fever: The British Monarchy in Consumer Culture, she claims the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are a direct contrast to the likes of Sophie Wessex and Princess Anne.
said Maclaren Express.co.uk: “Both Sophie Wessex and Princess Anne have been unwaveringly loyal in their service to the Queen and both retain a dignified position in the public eye.
“Both have had reputation issues in the past. Sophie has had to deal with the ‘Fake Sheikh’ scandal and Princess Anne has divorced Mark Phillips.
“But now they have both carved images as traditional royal women, diligent about their duties and careful not to embarrass the monarchy.
“Their brand image couldn’t be further from the breakaway Sussex brand that caters to Gen Z.
“Princess Anne and Sophie Wessex manage to avoid controversy because they better understand the demands of the job and are more willing to sacrifice their own personalities in the service of the Queen.
“Meghan and Harry have been much more keen on making sure they convey their own identities, even if it was judged inappropriate (the Oprah interview, etc.), and they’re clearly trying to build their own brand, which Princess Anne and Sophie are not.”
