A mother driving a DRINK told police she was “damn it” after she smashed her golden BMW into a row of parked cars.
Amie Jayne Campbell, 33, admitted today that she had drunk a bottle of wine and several cans of beer the night before the incident that left several cars damaged.
Teesside Magistrates Court heard the hairdresser “nearly hit a garden wall” before “driving at high speed” in Ormesby, Middlesbrough, on November 14.
As reported by TeesideLive, the mother was “driving erratically” and “wasting on the road” crashing into a parked car and “rushing straight ahead”.
This morning, she admitted to drinking while driving and being unable to stop after a road traffic collision.
Prosecutor Rachel Butt told how she was spotted leaving the house by a member of the public who saw her get in her car and make “several attempts” at a fork in the street.
They followed her down the road, where they found her “crashed into a dark green car” parked by the side of the road.
Campbell then fled the scene despite the damage to her car and the witness later contacted police.
Then an officer discovered she was “driving in the wrong direction” – and when she stopped, she accepted the officer.
She said in a “mumble” voice: “I’ve had a few bottles of wine.”
She added: “I f***ed up.”
Campbell was arrested, and 116 micrograms of alcohol were found in 100 milliliters of her breath.
The court heard Campbell had drunk a bottle of wine and a can of beer the night before and hadn’t “sleeped much”.
Campbell says it was her dad’s birthday – and he passed away a few years ago.
She explained that when she was asked in the morning she was “driving to the cemetery” when she collided with a car but was “panic”.
Lee Goodchild, palliative, said she was “drinking excessively” but “wanted to be with her father and unfortunately, the cemetery was the only place she could be with him”.
He also said how she visited the owners of the damaged cars and apologized for her actions.
“It was a huge credit to her,” he said.
Campbell was handed a 12-month community order with 12 days of rehabilitation activities, was stripped of his driving privileges for two years and also had to pay a £180 court bill.
