Drug dealer caught when he posted marijuana to friends – and wrote back to sender address on envelope

A DOPEY drug dealer got stuck when he sent marijuana to a friend – and wrote a return address on the envelope.
Daniel Mann dropped the package at the Post Office but there was a pungent smell coming out of it, prompting staff to notify the police immediately.
They discovered 27oz of cannabis, worth almost £6,000, inside – and Mann’s mother’s address on the envelope.
When they raided the house, they found another 28oz of marijuana
Sentencing him, Judge Robert Adams said: “It was an unsophisticated offense.
“It smells of marijuana and even has your mother’s address on it, making it very easy to find out who the sender is.”
Prosecutor Neil Pallister told Newcastle crown court earlier this week: “Police received a call from staff saying a man had delivered a suspicious package to post and it smelled of cannabis.
“The police attended and it was quite clear that the package left by the defendant contained two large bags of marijuana.”
The total value of the drugs found last January at South Gosforth Post Office and at his mother’s house was £12,440.
“It’s beyond personal use, even for someone with a heavy cannabis habit,” Mr Pallister said. Police also found £5,120 in cash.
Mann, 42, lof Newcastle, admitted to providing cannabis.
He was sentenced to nine months in prison, 18 months of probation, with a six-month curfew and 100 hours of unpaid work.
Tony Davis, defense, said that Mann lived alone and was trying to send marijuana to a friend.
He added: “The people at the post office were remedied with the smell of what was in the package.”
The court heard that Mann was his friend’s registered carer.
He also helps his disabled mother and is said to be very remorseful.
