Driver seriously injured after car collides with 7 other vehicles in Durham

DURHAM, NC (WNCN) — A man was seriously injured when his Ford Mustang collided with seven cars at a Durham intersection Saturday afternoon, police said.

According to a Durham Police press release, the accident happened just after 4:25 p.m. at the intersection of Durham-Chapel Hill and Tower Boulevard.

A man driving a 2017 Mustang West on Durham-Chapel Hill Boulevard collided with seven cars that were stopped at a stoplight at the intersection.

The driver, Shaun Barrett, 42, of Durham, was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, according to the press release.

Barrett suffered life-threatening injuries, police said. Other drivers were not injured.

“One bystander suffered minor injuries while attempting to help others involved in the accident,” the press release said.

Durham-Chapel Hill Boulevard between Tower Boulevard and Shannon Road was closed until about 10 p.m. following the crash.

The police examine the wreck. They said speed and commitment appear to be factors in the investigation so far.
