Driver crashes into couple’s car as they decorate Christmas tree

DENVER (KDVR) – A couple’s car nearly destroyed by a motorist tore through the Denver neighborhood near South Harrison Street and East Amherst Avenue on Saturday night.

Scott Lucero and his wife were touring the Christmas lights area, decorating their tree and were watching TV with some hot chocolate when they heard a scary sound.

Lucero said it was “just a hiss and then a loud bang,” which he thinks was a jet that flew over his house.

When Lucero ventured out, he saw the front end of his Jeep and his wife’s sedan crushed, glass covered in the ground.

“I mean two cars in one shot, are you kidding me? I mean, who does that happen right before Christmas? ‘ said Lucero.

No other cars on the street were hit by the driver, who left the scene without contacting anyone.

Lucero had apparently become annoyed while surveying the damage.

“Smashed my blue Jeep right there, through it, ripped off the bumper and the back of the window here was right through that window,” he said as he described the scene, covered covered with shards of glass.

Lucero told FOX31 that it’s hard to imagine someone doing so much damage without bothering to at least leave a message.

“Just start our two cars and take off, Merry Christmas,” he said.

After spending the day talking to police and filing a report, the Lucero family say they’re relieved to have insurance but this year’s Christmas won’t be.

“It will probably knock down the tree now, what do you have to do, we will try to fight but it will be an uphill fight,” he said.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Denver Police.
