Driver caught in surveillance video crashes into South Houston dance studio and takes off in another vehicle

SOUTH HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – A driver was caught on surveillance video speeding on the Spencer Expressway in South Houston before crashing into a dance studio.

Almost 20 seconds later, a white car came to pick up the suspect, who slowly got into his back seat, and then they drove away.

“Look at the damage,” said Jessica Galvan, owner of J-Productions LLC J-Dance Company. “There’s a lot of debris on the opposite side of the hallway, and letting him walk away alive is pretty outrageous.”

The crash happened at 4:30 a.m., so there were no dancers in the studio, which Galvan is grateful for. Most of their hard-earned titles were destroyed in the crash.

“We literally have trillions of titles that just fell apart,” said Galvan. “We had trophies shattered. It was heartbreaking. They worked hard for these trophies. It was a symbol of our dedication and they’re gone.”

The dancers had a week of performances in the winter, which was initially postponed due to COVID-19, but they didn’t let the failure get in the way.

“They’re still dancing their little hearts,” Galvan said. “This is not my home, it’s the home of so many children.”

The driver’s car was towed from the set, so Galvan hopes the license plate will help police track down who’s responsible.

ABC13 contacted the South Houston City Police Department but received no response.
