Dramatic video shows Los Angeles, California police saving baby from suffocation

LOS ANGELES – A Los Angeles police sergeant has been hailed as a hero after a bodycam video captured the moment he saved a baby who was choking and unable to breathe.

The footage, released on Monday, begins with a father begging for help and running towards the sergeant last week as he holds his unconscious child.

“Please officer! Please! I don’t know what’s going on!” cried the man.

The father helplessly watched as the sergeant called an ambulance to the scene to find his daughter.

As the sergeant worked to clear the girl’s airway, the worried mother came and yelled “Please! What’s going on?!”

The sergeant major began patting the child on the back to help clear the airway. To everyone’s relief, the girl began to breathe.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the sergeant found a “suffocation hazard inside the child’s airway,” and he performed a finger sweep and reverse thrust to help the girl breathe again.

“As a result of his efforts, the unknown suffocation risk disappeared and the child regained consciousness,” police said.

The baby was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition, according to a news release.

The sergeant’s name has not been made public.
