In the first leg finals of the Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) SEA 2021-22 Regional Finals between the top two teams in the region, T1 defeated BOOM Esports with a score of 2-1. Both teams are excellent and consistent when it comes to execution, a lot of the deciding factor coming from the drafting phase. T1 had a slight advantage in teamfights in game 1 and game 3, where BOOM Esports stumbled due to a few bad meta picks. T1 won the grand finals of the event while BOOM Esports dropped to the bottom bracket finals.
T1 vs BOOM Esports: Match Summary and Highlights
In game 1, BOOM Esports unexpectedly chose Angel for Tims. While not necessarily a bad or good pick, BOOM Esports didn’t have much of a counter-attack for Gabbi’s Terrorblade. At the 20th minute, the match was quite even; however, as soon as T1 got their hands on items like Pipe of Insight, Aghanim’s Shard on Legion Commander and Glimmer Cape, they started winning teamfights pretty easily. BOOM Esports lacked the sustained damage to take down T1’s champions and lost the match after 39 minutes.
Game 2 saw BOOM Esports crush T1 in the laning phase. It was particularly successful in the safelane, as JaCkky and Tim’s Weaver’s Phantom Assassin took out Kuku and Xepher multiple times. As BOOM Esports ramped up its momentum and gained more kills and targets, T1 couldn’t do any attacks because there was very little damage. BOOM Esports’ outstanding teamwork led to the victory in 35 minutes.
Game 3 saw BOOM Esports win a outer lane Underlord and place four Winter Wyvern in the second phase of the stretch. After witnessing the four heroes of BOOM Esports at the time, T1 decided to pick Batrider, a huge success. Karl’s Batrider made excellent moves across the map in the early stages to put tons of pressure on his opponent. This leaves plenty of room for Gabbi’s Razor and Kuku’s Wraith King. Because they did not have the best turret push, T1 continuously took the lead and finally ended the game with a score of 65k after 54 minutes.
Here are some highlights of the series.
It was T1 who made the most of its favorable draft period in both the first and third games. It knew when to wait for BKB and magic damage reduction items in the first game while in the third game it attacked from the beginning. Kim “Gabbi“Villafuerte Santos’ performance could be questioned going into the event, but he has proven to be an outstanding goalscorer in his two series so far.
The dominance and flawless play we’ve known from BOOM Esports was evident in game two but was missing in game one and three. Some of that seems to have come from the draft, while some is the result of T1’s sheer class. BOOM Esports must now beat Team SMG in the bottom bracket finals to progress to a rematch with T1 in DPC SEA Finals Regional Finals.
