Downtown Round Holiday Inn replacement announced

RALEIGH, NC (WNCN) – The iconic round Holiday Inn on Hillsborough Street in downtown Raleigh will soon be dying.

Tidal Real Estate Partners, which acquired the property it sits on, plans to put a large hotel in its place. This week, Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, part of IHG Hotels & Resorts’ Luxury & Lifestyle Collection, announced the opening of a boutique hotel on the site of the current Holiday Inn.

Crews are expected to break ground on the project in late 2023. Completion is scheduled for the end of 2025.

The hotel would be part of a new 20-story mixed-use condominium. Tidal Partners previously told CBS 17 that the development would include:

  • A hotel with 179 rooms
  • 350 residential units (1 bedroom: 280, 2 bedrooms: 70)
  • 7,698 square feet of retail and restaurant
  • Parking deck with 447 parking spaces

“Downtown Raleigh has long awaited a luxury hotel experience like that of Kimpton. The amenities, dining and event space will raise the bar for downtown hotel real estate and establish the Kimpton as a desirable destination for visitors and residents alike,” said Mick Walsdorf, CEO of Tidal Real Estate Partners.

Kimpton Hotels said their hotel would occupy the first six floors of the building. In addition to the hotel, there are plans for three unique restaurant and bar concepts, including a rooftop bar and lounge, and more than 6,500 square feet of meeting and event space.

Kimpton said the hotel would offer perks like morning coffee and tea service, evening social hour, “Forgot It? We’ve got it!” Amenity program, 24-hour fitness center, in-room yoga mats, free bike rentals, and a free pet policy.

“We’ve had great success with our Kimptons in North Carolina and look forward to adding Raleigh to our portfolio as a new destination. We believe our design-led brand and welcoming, innovative restaurants and bars will resonate with both locals and visitors to the city,” said Mike DeFrino, CEO of Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants.
