As allegations against former TSM coach Peter Zhang continue to surface, ex-TSM AD carry Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng shared his experience with the coach during his March 20 Twitch stream.
It’s been a bad couple of weeks to be a TSM fan. On March 19, the organization announced they were separating from their assistant coach Peter Zhang over “very serious allegations of conflicts of interest and unethical practices,” the latest of several controversies to plague TSM in 2022.
A report by Dexerto revealed the nature of the allegations: that Zhang had borrowed significant sums of money from players while at TSM and secured spots in TSM’s squads for Chinese and Taiwanese players in exchange for money.
Doublelift comments on the Zhang controversy
Former TSM player Doublelift took to Twitch to share his take on the controversy as someone who was once part of the organization. He described how Zhang appeared to have asked “several” TSM players for a loan of between $12,000 and $20,000 to be paid by bank transfer.
He also claimed several players canceled the transactions right after they were made, a process made possible by the long processing fees involved in transferring such large amounts of money.
Doublelift also said that just a few days ago, Zhang asked to borrow $70,000 from him and that he could repay the loan to Doublelift “by the end of the month.”
Doublelift also claimed he heard some “wild rumors” about how Zhang spent the borrowed money.
Zhang told Dexerto that all of the money he borrowed from players went to fund his grandmother’s medical bills. The full amount of money he has borrowed from players is still unknown.
Doublelift left the TSM organization not on the best of terms and made a number of allegations against owner Reginald, including harassment and abuse. Riot launched an investigation into the allegations in January.
