Don’t believe anything China says about Putin’s Ukraine war

Beijing pretends to be neutral on Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, but the sign is that the Chinese Communist Party is tricking the fully state-controlled media into repeating Russia’s propaganda.

The orders just went out — as a quickly deleted message on Horizon News, a social media account under Beijing News, inadvertently revealed: “No posts unfavorable to Russia or with pro-Western content should be published.”

Last week, for example, while the rest of the world saw real-world images of Ukrainian cities under siege and the carnage left in their wake by Russian forces — the 45-foot trench filled with civilian bodies in Bucha and all the bodies littering the city — China’s People Daily shared a video on social media platform Weibo that “shows” Russia providing humanitarian aid to Ukrainians outside of Kharkiv.

More than 3 million people watched this bull.

From the start, Chinese networks reinforced Russian disinformation, citing false claims by Russian officials that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky fled the capital and that Ukrainian soldiers surrendered on the first day of the invasion.

And China’s Phoenix TV has been issuing reports meanwhile Embedded in Russian troops outside the now devastated Mariupol by civilians rumored to be welcoming the Russian forces.

Beijing has refused to even condemn the invasion, instead claiming that the United States and NATO are to blame for Putin’s war. Xi Jinping even told President Joe Biden that the US and NATO are “at the heart” of the problem.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s security service, the SBU, says China is responsible for a major pre-invasion cyberattack on Ukraine’s military and nuclear facilities, with thousands of hacking attempts on more than 600 websites of the Defense Ministry in Kyiv and other institutions.

Perhaps that was a favor for Russia, as it delayed the invasion until after the Beijing Olympics ended, as reportedly requested by Xi.

After all, on February 4, the opening day of the Olympics, Putin and Xi declared their wicked best friendship, proclaiming in a joint 5,000-word statement: “The friendship between the two states knows no borders, there are no ‘forbidden’ areas of cooperation .”

For now, at least, the invasion has awakened the West to Putin’s true nature. But the world has yet to admit that Xi is an enemy of civilization as well.
