A special Georgia grand jury investigating whether former President Donald Trump illegally interfered with the state’s voting in 2020 has subpoenaed several members of its legal team, including Rudy Giuliani.
Along with Giuliani, the Fulton County panel subpoenaed John Eastman, Cleta Mitchell, Kenneth Chesebro and Jenna Ellis, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reported, citing court documents released Tuesday.
The subpoenaed members of his legal team had attempted to reverse President Biden’s victory in the Peach State and other states where Trump had falsely claimed he had won or insisted there had been widespread voter fraud.
In addition, Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC), a Trump loyalist, was also subpoenaed by the 23-member panel, according to the report.
Because the subpoenas call for testimony from out-of-state witnesses, a judge’s approval was required to corroborate it, the report said. Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney, who oversees the grand jury, signed the documents.
The grand jury was appointed as part of Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’ investigation into Trump allegedly pressuring Georgia officials to overturn Biden’s victory in the state.
In a leaked phone conversation with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger on Jan. 2, 2021, Trump urged him to “find” 11,780 votes for his failed re-election campaign.
Cleta Mitchell, who was among those summoned by the grand jury on Tuesday, advised Trump on the appeal under the Journal’s constitution.
Trump and members of his reelection campaign have not been charged with alleged conspiracy to overthrow the 2020 presidential election.
