Dolphin attacks trainer in front of spectators at show in Miami

Flipper was fed up.

A dolphin turned on its trainer and spanked her in front of a gasping crowd at the Miami Seaquarium on Saturday, according to a report.

Video of the attack shows a trainer suddenly being violently rammed and lifted out of the water before the dolphin gave way.

“One trainer furthest from the video was either repeatedly hit by the dolphin or pulled down by the dolphin,” said Shannon Carpenter, who filmed the incident and shared it on social media.

“The children cheered and thought it was great,” he said. “You could tell the adults knew something was wrong.”

Once past the dolphin, the trainer can be seen frantically swimming to the edge of the pool and pulling herself out.

Then another trainer comes to check on her and comforts her as she kneels in shock.

In a statement, park officials said the dolphin, named “Sundance,” was spooked after encountering the trainer.

“A dolphin and a trainer accidentally collided in the water on Saturday while performing a routine behavior as part of the pinball show,” the park said. “This was an awkward interaction for both of them and the dolphin responded by breaking out of routine and hitting the trainer.”

There were no serious injuries in the incident.

But the unnerving episode was just the latest controversy for the Miami Seaquarium.

The USDA destroyed the facility last June and issued a 17-page report accusing it of a multitude of animal welfare violations.

This included feeding rotten fish to animals and neglecting their welfare in general.
