Dolly Parton’s former home is up for sale after 12 years

Dolly Parton’s longtime home in Tennessee, where she lived with her husband Carl Dean when she rose to stardom, has sold for $849,000 after spending years in the market, according to The Post.

The couple bought the four-bedroom, two-bathroom Nashville property in 1980 for $50,000 — or about $190,400 in today’s dollars.

Later, 16 years later, in 1996, they sold the house for $140,000, which is about $269,000 today.

Since 2010, the home has come and gone from the same owners who bought Parton and Dean’s home. It was first listed for $359,000.

There were several price reductions over the next few years. After the competitive housing market and inflation, the home was finally sold on December 22, 2021.

It appears that the dated nature of the house has contributed to its time spent on the market.

This is the second owner since the singer, actress, and philanthropist moved out.

During her time at home, Parton was already known for her songs “Jolene” and “I Will Always Love You,” which Elvis Presley was keen to record, and Parton himself was interested in collaborating with Presley. But when his manager, Col. Tom Parker, told her it was standard procedure to sign off on half of her publishing rights to a song Presley had recorded, Parton declined. This led to her earning millions of dollars in royalties from the song over the years.

When Parton first moved into the house in 1980, her theme song for the feature film “9 to 5” not only reached #1 on the country charts, but also on the pop and adult contemporary charts.

The property covers an area of 4,795 square feet and sits on a 2.4 acre lot.

The top floor of the home, billed as a “one-of-a-kind two-story home,” was a successful “owner-occupied bed n breakfast called ‘Dolly’s Getaway,'” according to the previous listing.

There is also a separate guest house and detached studio used for an online business.

Action Homes’ Donna Brewer held the listing.

Meanwhile, while Parton and her 56-year-old husband lived in the rather modest home, they built their “dream home” in Brentwood, just 20 minutes away – although they didn’t have the financial means to do it yet.

“My husband Carl and I dreamed of a house,” she said in an interview she gave for the book Dolly on Dolly. “Every year we would take this old camera to Mississippi for our anniversary and photograph parts of the southern mansions that we liked. A porch here, a pillar there. Then we took them home and looked at them very carefully and put it all together in our minds.”

Dolly Parton first met her husband when she was 18 and he was 21, as the singer has said, the pair still make time to date.

“I knew this house before it was built, and I built it long before we could afford it because I knew that one day we would be able to,” she said. “I’ve been looking all over Tennessee for a piece of land with hills in front and a creek around it,” she said.

“It has a tiny bridge and I made sure it was just narrow enough so that a tour bus couldn’t go over it. Carl and I can walk around there stark naked and no one will see. We have chickens and cows and a vegetable garden. It’s a quiet, homey place for me and the special people in my life.”

Your current home/farm is 8,100 square feet and sits on over 62 acres of land.

Over the years, they installed a bathhouse, gazebo, swimming pool and tennis courts, according to development documents obtained by The Post.
