Dolly Parton hosts Miley Cyrus’ New Year’s special

Legendary country music superstar Dolly Parton will co-host Miley Cyrus’ live New Year’s Eve special on December 31 in Miami, Florida.

“‘Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party’ is about getting glamorous and dressing your best,” Cyrus said in a promotional video posted to Instagram on Tuesday.

“Well, we do that every day. Right, Miley?” Parton intervened.

“You taught me well,” the “Wrecking Ball” singer confirmed.

The “9 to 5” singer went on to promise that the special would be “legendary,” which Cyrus vowed, “She would know!”

Parton and Cyrus have a long history as the “Rockin’ Years” singer is a close friend of Cyrus’ father, Billy Ray Cyrus. The blonde duo have collaborated in the past on live renditions of Parton’s Jolene, as well as 2017’s Rainbowland, featured on Cyrus’ Younger Now album.

Cyrus also appeared on Parton’s 2020 album A Holly Dolly Christmas for a duet titled “Christmas Is.”

This will be Cyrus’ second consecutive New Year’s Eve extravaganza produced by Lorne Michaels. Last year’s show recruited Saturday Night Live alumnus Pete Davidson to co-host Cyrus and saw performances by Jack Harlow, Brandi Carlile, Saweetie, Noah Cyrus, Anitta, 24kGoldn, Kitty Ca$h and others.

“Lorne Michaels is literally a master at improvising and putting together a show of this magnitude. He does that every week for five days,” Cyrus told Variety earlier this year. “I think everyone wants to see something that’s real and honest and real and authentic — which has to do with the way everyone is partying at home.”

Last year’s event was the second most-watched NYE special on television, behind “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest,” according to Variety, with 6.3 million viewers from 11:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., compared to Seacrest’s 19.6 million total viewers.

But it also caused a stir, as Cyrus’ show was the most trending NYE special on Twitter.

Cyrus ushered in 2021 with a bang when she suffered a wardrobe malfunction during a performance of Party in the USA.

Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party will air live on NBC and Peacock on December 31 at 10:30 p.m. EST.
