Dolly Parton has written a new song – but you won’t hear it until 2045

She leaves a parting gift.
An unreleased song by Dolly Parton lives buried in a time capsule in Dollywood. But it’s not coming out anytime soon — no matter how much Parton wants it.
During a recent stop on The Kelly Clarkson Show, the 76-year-old country music superstar recalled recording the track in 2015 with the intention of having it premiere 30 years later.
“You have no idea how much that bothered me,” Parton admitted to Clarkson. “I want to dig this up so badly. … It’s a really good song!”
Parton would be 99 when the song was released in 2045 – and she’s fully aware that she may not be alive when the world finally hears it.
“I don’t know whose fucking idea that was,” she joked.

“They didn’t expect me to be there at all, and I probably won’t be. I might be there, who knows,” she continued.
“I guess it will probably unravel, probably nobody [will] ever hear. It bothers me to think that if it rots there before they open it, it’s going to be a song that no one will ever hear.”
Parton claims she “buried things related to time” along with the song, including a cassette tape and CD player.
She revealed the song’s existence in her 2020 book Songteller: My Life in Lyrics, writing that putting the song in the capsule felt “like burying one of my kids, putting it on hold or anything, and it won’t be me to see it come back to life.”

“It burns me inside that I have to leave it there,” she added.
In the near future, the “Jolene” singer plans to expand her empire with a museum in Nashville. Dollywood is located in Pigeon Forge, southeast of Knoxville.

“We obviously have the museum in Dollywood, but I’d love to have something here because this is really my home,” she told the Tennessean in November. “And I might have a restaurant or a bar with a grill. However, I have so many things going at the moment. I can do without that at the moment. But one day I will have a shop here.”
For now, Parton can look forward to ringing in the new year with goddaughter Miley Cyrus during “Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party,” which will air December 31 at 10:30 p.m. Eastern Time on NBC and stream on Peacock.
