Doctors warn of TikTok’s ‘Plan B’ viral pregnancy test hack

Doctors are warning TikTok users not to try the “Plan B” hack going viral on the app, with some users claiming a Plan B pill is hidden in pregnancy tests.

TikTok is home to a whole host of so-called “life hacks” — some of which have been around the web for years, others have become popular in recent years thanks to the short-form video platform.

These tips and tricks can include everything from draining your pasta to wearing your jeans in the shower, and videos demonstrating the hacks are often viewed and liked by millions, with viewers dying to try it for themselves.

However, doctors are warning of a “tip” that has gone viral on TikTok, especially over the course of 2022, where some users are claiming there is a plan B pill (aka the morning-after pill) in pregnancy tests.

In countless videos uploaded to TikTok, users can be seen prying open plastic pregnancy tests and finding a small, round, pill-like object that some falsely claim is a Plan B pill.

The trend has viewers worried across the platform, and in April Dr. Karan Raj, a popular doctor on TikTok, people before trying.

“No, don’t eat the pills you find in a pregnancy test,” he said in a sting with one of the most viral videos. “They are not a Plan B or an emergency contraceptive pill, they are a desiccant tablet used to absorb and retain moisture to extend the shelf life of a pregnancy test, much like the little silica packets you find in shoes and bags .”

“They are poisonous for human consumption, [and] will not prevent pregnancy. Don’t eat them, if you do, go to the doctor,” he continued.

There have been several viral TikTok “hacks” of late that have prompted experts to warn people not to try them, including taping your mouth shut at night and drinking aloe vera juice.
