DJ was slammed for playing “f–ked up” song to prom queen in wheelchair

A TikTok of a prom king and prom queen’s winning dance is going viral for all the wrong reasons.

The clip, uploaded Thursday by user Celeste Orozco and already has 16 million views, captured the moment the DJ played Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” for select royalties.

“When your legs don’t work the way they used to,” Sheeran sings in the song’s opening line.

But Prom-goers audibly winced at the lyrics of the 2014 hit, as Prom Queen Sarah Mendenhall sat in the middle of the dance floor — in a wheelchair.

“This would haunt me for the rest of my life if I was the DJ,” Orozco wrote at the forefront of the scene, which has over 2.8 million likes and 44,900 comments.

“The DJ knew exactly what he was doing,” one user wrote, and another chimed in, “That’s freaking good bro.”

“He said ‘wait, I’ve got the perfect song,'” joked another.

“The DJ got slipped $20 by the girl in second place to play this,” surmised another.

“NOT WORKING,” said one.

“Personally I would have gone,” said another.

“I’m a wedding DJ…ouch,” admitted one user. “We can’t know every lyric to every song, but damn it.”

“I forgot the song started like that,” said one commenter, while another claimed he was the DJ in the video.

Although Ed Sheeran’s hit is a popular choice at dances and weddings, it was an unfortunate choice for this particular occasion.

“I would have been so embarrassed and just cried and left. I hope that didn’t spoil the evening for her,” sympathized another user.

Luckily that wasn’t the case.

“Hey everyone that’s me lol,” Mendenhall wrote. “I found it really funny and ironic. I didn’t know what was playing until after because I was tryna ✨dance✨.”

“I had a great prom night and laughed a lot about it the next day,” Orozco replied, telling users Mendenhall was “her best friend,” adding, “Please stop the hating.”

It’s unclear what year or state the viral video was captured in, but The Post has reached out to Orozco for clarification.
