A spokeswoman said: “Maradona may have worn a different kit in the first half but there are clear differences between this and what was worn during the goals.

“Before putting this shirt up for sale, we carefully reviewed the item and did scientific research to ensure it is the shirt Maradona wore in the second half.”

At the end of the game in Mexico, the Argentine winner traded shirts with Hodge, whose unpredictable lob he potted after leapfrogging Shilton.

The ex-Forest and Spurs star, now 59, said it was a “privilege” to play against him. Maradona died in 2020at the age of 60.
