Dermot O’Leary responds after Alison Hammond cried during a discussion about obesity This Morning

Dermot O’Leary has praised This morning Co-host Alison Hammond for her discussion of obesity on live television.

Hammond sobbed as he responded to a telephone consultation question on the subject during Friday’s episode of the ITV series (March 4).

“I’ve had obesity all my life and your regulatory system has gone haywire,” she said. “Obviously you can’t control wanting to eat all the time. Many people don’t know that obesity is a disease.

She continued, “People look down on people just because they’re so tall. And they can’t really help if you have an illness.”

Addressing her tears, Hammond said, “Sorry, I’m really touched. It’s so hard – people don’t realize it.”

O’Leary comforted Hammond, as did consulting expert Deidre Sanders, and after the show, the host shared a post about his co-host on his Instagram Stories.

The presenter posted a photo of a smiling Hammond alongside a heart and a caption that read “Proud of you.”

Dermot O’Leary took to Instagram to say he was “proud” of This Morning co-host Alison Hammond.

Viewers were unanimous in their praise for Hammond, with one calling her “a damn inspiration to a lot of people.”

“She’s amazing for being so open about her fight against obesity and the stigma surrounding obesity,” added a viewer.
