Derby: Bomb squad called to street as 50 homes evacuated and man arrested

Dozens of houses in Derby was evacuated after several “suspicious items” were found during a police search of a home on Sunday morning.

The Explosives Disposal Team was called in and remained “on site” while officers dealt with the situation, Derbyshire Police speak.

Meanwhile, a man was arrested and remains in police custody.

Officers arrived at the address on King Alfred Street, Normanton, around 11:30 a.m. Homes were evacuated there, as well as on Monk Street and Wolfa Street.

Residents and locals in the area are being asked to “stay away” until officers say the roads are safe again.

Police said those who were evacuated will be contacted when they can return safely.
