Death of Johnny Brown: Actor best known for his role as Bookman on ‘Good Times’ has died aged 84

He was 84 and died on March 2, his daughter said.
“It’s too awful. It will never be different. It’s a shock. He was literally ripped out of our lives. It’s not real to us yet,” Sharon Brown, an actress and composer, wrote on Friday. “Well, there will be more to say, but not right now. Dad was the absolute best. We love him so much.”
“Good Times” was a spin-off of “Maude” and revolved around the Evans family, led by matriarch Florida (Esther Rolle) in a Chicago housing project. It also featured Jimmie Walker singing for his trademark “Dynomite!” became famous. Set and a young Janet Jackson.
In addition to appearing on the show for four years, Brown made frequent appearances on Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In and enjoyed a long singing and performing career.
Additional credits include “The Flip Wilson Show”, “The Jeffersons” and “Martin”. In the 1960s he appeared on Broadway with Sammy Davis Jr. and Cicely Tyson.
A cause of death was not announced.
