TikTok star Cooper Noriega has died aged 19.
The teenager, who has posted about fashion, comedy and skateboarding, was found dead in a Burbank, Calif., parking lot Thursday (June 9), according to the Los Angeles Medical Examiner-Coroner.
According to the US press, his cause of death has been postponed, meaning that “following an autopsy, no cause of death has been determined and the coroner is requesting further investigations.”
Hours before his death, Noriega had posted a video of himself lying in bed to his 2.1million followers on TikTok with the caption, “Who else thinks they’ll die young.”
Days before his death he had shared his struggles with mental health and addiction on Instagram, writing: “I’ve struggled with addiction since I was 9 years old you may think this is crazy but this is the life I’ve had. I want to use the influence I’ve received to create a space built on spreading awareness and normalizing the speaking out about mental illness…
“One of the many things I’ve learned while struggling with addiction is that surrounding yourself with negative people will only bring you down.”
On June 5, Noriega shared a TikTok video announcing that he is starting a group for people to discuss their mental health experiences on Discord, a messaging platform.
In the video, Noriega said, “I just created a discord server solely for mental health because I love you guys so much and how much I struggle with this myself.”
He added, “I want you guys not to be alone and feel safe.”
