Deadly May tornadoes swept through Houston in 1983

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Nearly 40 years ago, a swarm of deadly tornadoes swept through the Houston area, killing 11 people and injuring dozens more.
The spring storms rolled through in late May 1983.
The storm cut a swath from Brenham to Beaumont and battered RV parks, including one park that was hit once in the morning and once in the evening.
The storm toppled mobile homes and killed a 14-year-old girl at a trailer park in the spring. Two children were killed in Waller County, one of whom was yanked from her boyfriend’s arms when the tornado ripped off the roof of their trailer.
Some of the victims were killed when pine trees fell on their homes. 12 to 15 tornadoes have been reported in Harris County alone.
