DURHAM, NC (WNCN) – The Durham Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that resulted in a man crashing a car Saturday afternoon, sparking a power outage.
Officers responded to a shooting in the 2700 block of Holloway Street just after 2 p.m
Upon arrival, officers found a man in a vehicle being shot at. The victim was taken to hospital and pronounced dead, police said.
After the shooting, the victim’s car struck a utility pole, causing a blackout in an area along Holloway Street from Junction Road to Lynn Road, police said.
About 1,200 people in the area are currently without power, according to Duke Energy, which is responding to the scene.
Saturday afternoon’s shooting came less than 24 hours after a teenage girl was shot and killed in the same area of Durham.
Saturday’s shooting also comes after some high-profile fatal shootings in Durham that saw people hit by gunfire while driving and then fall. One happened just 11 days ago along US 15-501, leaving a 19-year-old dead.
A similar fatal shooting occurred along NC 55 a month ago when gunfire also hit a hot dog restaurant, killing a Jeep driver.
The investigations are ongoing.
