Dead frozen shark found on Cape Cod beach during cold spell

A dead, partially frozen shark washed up on an icy beach in Cape Cod, Massachusetts over the weekend.

A local photographer stumbled upon the carcass while walking on a beach in Dennis, aptly named Cold Storage Beach, around 2:30 p.m

Photographer Amie Medeiros snapped a photo of the shark lying on its side on the icy sand and shared it on Instagram.

In the comments, she said the frozen animal was “not what I expected from my frozen winter adventure.”

The large fish believed to be a porbeagle shark may have died from an injury sustained on its side. The photos of Mederios show that it has lacerations over its fins.

Ice covered parts of the carcass, as well as most of the beach, as temperatures in the area dropped below freezing, according to the National Weather Service.

Shark sightings in Cape Cod waters increased throughout the summer as people flocked to the popular vacation spot’s beaches. East Coast beaches have been closed due to the sightings and even some minor attacks.
