David Bowie’s mega yacht costs $5.17 million

Those wanting to sail the seas with the utmost ease have a new option in their midst – one with rare celebrity pedigree.

A mega yacht once owned by the late glam rock icon David Bowie is up for sale for $5.17 million (excluding spiders from Mars).

The ship dates back to 1977 – and Bowie owned it throughout the 1980s, according to his representative and longtime friend Bill Zysblat.

Bowie, who died in 2016, was known to have a fear of flying — he admitted in an interview that his phobia led to several hits including “Space Oddity.”

“It allows me to just write about space instead of getting into it,” he said in a 2002 interview with 60 Minutes.

Instead, he traveled the seas from country to country during a tour on the yacht. When he finally got over that fear, he sold the yacht in the late ’80s. Since then it has had two different owners.

The yacht was actively used during her lifetime, sailing through the Mediterranean and the Atlantic.

First known as Deneb Star, it later changed its name to El Caran. The six-cabin boat was recently rented for $85,000 a week.

It was refitted in 2020 with some recent upgrades including a fresh paint job and a new teak deck.

It was designed and built by the Italian boat building company Benetti.

The interior of the yacht features a mahogany finish with paintings and art installations.

She accommodates up to 12 guests in over six cabins – including a master suite, two VIP cabins, a double cabin and two twin cabins.

Giulio Riggio from the Fraser office in Palma holds the listing.

Since the singer’s death in 2016, several other items previously owned by him have been put up for sale, including 400 artworks auctioned from his personal collection (including pieces by Jean-Michel Basquiat and Ettore Sottsass).

Meanwhile, his longtime New York apartment, which he shared with his wife, supermodel Iman, sold for $16.5 million last summer after being in the market for almost five years.
